Don’t be afraid to take some online courses

At times, you can find yourself at a standstill in creativeness, advancing techniques or finding a different sound.  The case could also be that you are wishing to learn an instrument or how to sing. This can often be frustrating and can cause you to go around in circles.  It is worth looking to find online music theory classes and technical classes which you can do from home and will greatly get you out of this standstill that you have found yourself at.  Learning always helps broaden the mind or gives you a way of doing something that you didn’t know was possible

Practise alone daily

This point will not always enhance your playing performance, it will however, keep you from getting rusty.  One of the things which can set you apart from the best musicians is if you are not practising daily, if just practising once or twice a week, you are losing 6 days a week to the other musicians who are practising at least once a day.  It´s not a competition, but there is a reason why artists like Jimi Hendrix or Neil peart became known as some of the best artists in the world.

Practise in a band

Even if you are a solo artist it’s a great idea to get out there and join a band or jam with friends.  Doing this can get your timing much better and jamming with other musicians is always a great way to get playing different styles of music which can expand your musical repertoire.

Listen to different genres of music

Be it going out and watching local live bands or listening to some music in the comfort of your own home it’s important to be constantly branching out to different genres.  Even if the genres don´t differ from those that you normally listen to, it’s a great way to get a more open mind when playing music in the future.  If you hear a new riff, or a singing style that you like and would like to try, remember to give it a go and keep practising it.

Try different instruments

If you are just singing for now, try learning an instrument or if you are a guitarist give yourself a chance at learning the drums or any other musical instrument.  Learning a new instrument can often give you all around musical techniques that you would never have learnt on your current instrument but you can utilise when playing your normal instrument now.

Enhancing your musical capabilities is not going to be easy, but hopefully the tips above can point you in the right direction and get you advancing in no time at all.
